I did my first Biodanza class in Pretoria at age 17 having just returned from living as an exchange student in Concepcion, Chile – Rolando Toro’s motherland.
Many years later, I joined a weekend Biodanza workshop with Marcelo Toro in Camps Bay, where I was astounded by the kindness and warmth of the people who received me. That weekend, I spontaneously stepped into the role of translating for Marcelo, a role I then continued to play for the Personal Development course in 2014-2015. I went on to complete my facilitator’s training, and presented my monograph in February 2017. In this, I reflect on my experience as a translator of Biodanza, the lessons I learned in whole-person communication and the art of enunciation in Biodanza, as well as the healing gifts it offered me in trusting my abilities and being present in each moment.
I have been on a journey with Cape Town NGO LifeChoices, where I give occasional Biodanza classes to the wonderful staff and the young leaders with whom they work.
I am a mother of nearly 2 boys. I love to dance, create and eat nourishing delicious food, and be immersed in nature.
My work in the world is to weave together diverse insights for effective social action, in service of a healthier society. I have a degree in Social Anthropology and a Masters in Communication for Development. I currently work in a leadership role at The Health Foundation, where much of my focus is on women’s, maternal and child health.
My husband and I are custodians of a beautiful smallholding in Swellendam that we call The Well, where we dream of creating a place to nurture well-being for planet and people.
