Biodanza is a therapeutic dance movement. There are 3 parts to a weekly session:
There is a theme and purpose to every session and the facilitator proposes movements and exercises linked to specially chosen music during the process . Participants are encouraged to move and dance as they feel, and to express themselves through their own movement.
You don’t have to be able to dance or have a certain level of fitness to do Biodanza. Biodanza sessions are suitable for everyone, regardless of age, ability or culture.
You are always encouraged to self-regulate in the sessions and to move as is comfortable for you, in the moment.
It is best to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes that allows you to move freely. We typically dance barefoot but you can wear light dance shoes or sock-like footwear if you like.
We play a wide variety of music encompassing various styles and tracks from all over the world from Contemporary to Rock to Classical, Jazz and Blues to Latin and African grooves.
You don’t need a partner to enjoy Biodanza, as it is always offered in a group setting. A key feature of the Biodanza method is to offer a dynamic, social space for fun and learning and interaction that develops our capacity to appreciate diversity and connect authentically in feedback.
Biodanza is unique in that, progressively, through the combination of the movement, music and interaction with the group, it leads us to an affective integration i.e. one relearns to connect and relate from a place of love and affection. Therapeutic dance movement creates a powerful link with the heart.
Biodanza brings one back to an organic unity – an outer and inner integration – through the resetting of one’s internal workings and a relearning of the original functions of life i.e. re-awakening the instincts. From here, one comes into touch with one’s needs and learns to listen to one’s inner voice!
